Six Feet Up Helps Columbia River PUD Upgrade their CMS

A publicly-owned power company, Columbia River PUD was in need of an upgrade for their Plone CMS, as well as a new look and feel. Six Feet Up migrated the site, which was originally built with Plone 2.1, to Plone 4.3, and implemented a whole new design. Since 2006, Six Feet Up has brought the site through 4 Plone migrations to keep it up to date.

This latest migration not only brought the site up to date with the latest Plone standards, but also made the site future-ready for changes coming in Plone 5. The project included migrating most of the content types to Dexterity, and creating a new Diazo theme that is based on Plone Default instead of Sunburst.

The new design brings a fresh look to the site, and is responsive to work with any browser size. The updates also allow the power company to update their sitemap in a way to make information easier to find for their clients.

Other new features implemented include a homepage built completely with portlets using collective.panels. This allows each part of the page to be managed by Columbia River PUD without having to touch any templates. The slideshow product collective.easyslideshow has been extended to support portlets. These portlets can be configured to display images (as clickable ads) in random order, and will not display any ads that have expired.
