Building Flexible Wagtail CMS Experiences for Editors

By: Annette Lewis (Six Feet Up) & Eric Sherman (Truth Initiative)

Wed, Oct. 8 | 11:30a ET

When Truth Initiative, the nonprofit behind one of the nation’s most recognizable anti-tobacco campaigns, launched a high-stakes health site, speed was critical. They needed to push timely, accurate content without flooding the dev team with tickets—or risking design drift.

The solution: A CMS configured to empower editors. By combining StreamFields, snippets, and custom page models, Wagtail gave editors creative freedom while ensuring the design system stayed intact.

This talk will explore:

  • The most common editor pain points in rigid CMS setups—and how Wagtail fixes them.
  • How reusable content blocks (like FAQs, authors, and CTAs) boosted SEO, efficiency, and credibility.
  • The balance between editor freedom and design control, and why it matters in mission-critical campaigns.

Attendees will learn how to design CMS experiences that turn bottlenecks into autonomy—freeing developers to focus on complex work while editors confidently own publishing. For organizations under pressure to deliver, this approach transforms Wagtail into more than a CMS—it becomes a strategic advantage.

One URL to Rule Them All: Dynamic Landing Pages in Wagtail

By: Chrissy Wainwright (Six Feet Up) & Doug Harris (Truth Initiative)

Thurs, Oct. 9 | 10a ET

Campaigns often require multiple landing pages—one for every platform, channel, or audience. For Truth Initiative, this quickly became unmanageable, forcing editors to maintain dozens of nearly identical pages.

We built a dynamic Wagtail landing page that tracks users based on the last URL segment (e.g., /youtube, /facebook). Ability for A/B testing was also included to help test different features against a percentage of the audience. Editors now manage a single page design for tailoring text, CTAs, and creative assets.

This session covers:

  • The business problem of campaign duplication.
  • How we used Wagtail to manage user tracking using a single landing page
  • How A/B testing was implemented for testing different text within the page
  • The impact: reduced editor workload, faster rollouts, and consistent design across channels.

Attendees will walk away with a model for tackling personalization and scale—without drowning in duplicate content.
