Pythology Lecture Series: Web Framework Shootout

<< All Events
June 23, 2017

We tasked 5 Pythonistas with creating a voting app, each using a different Python framework to see how they measure up. Come hear the results of their month-long experiment as each presenter talks about what worked well and what was challenging in the development process.

The event will include presentations from these Indianapolis area pythonistas:

CherryPy
by: Joe Kaufeld, Developer, USA Today Network

Joe started programming when his dad gave him a QBASIC interpreter, showed him the documentation, and said, "Have fun!". Born and raised in Indiana, his hobbies include biking, programming, and picking up more hobbies. He lives with his partner, Ahliah, obnoxious feline furball Bernadette, and midnight black rabbit, Martha.

Django
by: Calvin Hendryx-Parker, CTO and Co-Founder, Six Feet Up
And Osiris Clark, Dev Intern, Six Feet Up

Calvin Hendryx-Parker is the co-founder and CTO of Six Feet Up. At Six Feet Up, Calvin establishes the company's technical vision and leads all aspects of the company's technology development. He provides the strategic vision for enhancing the offerings of the company and infrastructure, and works with the team to set company priorities and implement processes that will help improve product and service development.

Moved by an ever burning desire to learn new technology, Calvin believes that programing knowledge should be open, available, accessible, friendly and engaging. In 2007, Calvin founded IndyPy, the local Python user group, with the goal of finding the tech community in Indiana. More recently Calvin has become Eleven Fifty Academy’s official Python and Django teaching partner, and is an Iron Yard Indianapolis Advisory Board Member. He is currently working with TechPoint Foundation for Youth to help build the world's largest network of Coder Dojos and was nominated Tech Educator of the Year in 2016 at the Mira Awards.

Osiris Yessika Gonzalez Melendez is a reformed pure math professor with a Masters in Mathematics focusing on Partial differential Equations and Dynamic Systems.

Hailing from the tropical beaches of Panama where we all dream about working from remotely-she enjoys the chilled out daily commutes from downtown Indy to Fishers where she works at Six Feet Up. When she’s not neck deep in PyCharm she’s fantasizing about translating stackoverflow to Spanish. Off duty she enjoys renovating downtown real estate, fashion, hiking, camping, beer and wine.

Flask
by: Cameron Dershem, Owner & Software Developer at pinkhatbeard

Former Gaffer/Best Boy with a degree in Cinematography turned Software Developer. Outside of being an avid cyclist, wishful randonneur, and dedicated velodrome attendee, he enjoys cast iron for cooking, coffee for drinking, vim for editing, git for versioning, and Ubuntu for Linux-ing. Beyond being known for an impeccable fashion sense and talent for hair farming, Cameron is (in)famous for being a solutions focused, open source enthusiast, always wanting to do more. Cameron is also founder of pinkhatbeard, a consulting company focused on solving interesting problems, and co-founder of ocelli - a startup in the IoT space working to make the Internet what we always imagined it would be as kids
