Plone Site Gets Big Speed Boost

July 24, 2007

The Institute for the Study of Knowledge Management in Education (ISKME) has recently enjoyed a boost of traffic to their Open Educational Resources (OER) site "OERCommons.org":http://www.oercommons.org. In order to address the new speed issues experienced by the Plone site, Six Feet Up set up a Squid reverse caching accelerator and tuned it to address the site's characteristics. Inside the Plone site, Six Feet Up tuned the content headers to be effectively cached by the proxy, and optimized the site behaviors to reduce 302 redirects. The results speak for themselves: before the tuning, the site handled about 7 requests per second. The speed optimization work performed by Six Feet Up boosted that number to over 400 requests per second. "See case study »":/portfolio/see-all/oer-commons
