Six Feet Up's very own CTO, Calvin Hendryx-Parker, has been nominated to receive the 2016 Mira Award for Tech Educator of the Year! Calvin has been recognized for his dedication to coding education with 11 other nominees by a panel of independent subject matter experts.
Nominees for the Tech Educator of the Year had to demonstrate that they are passionate about generating and inspiring future talent, and take an innovative approach to teaching. Calvin demonstrates this commitment to educating future coders as Eleven Fifty Academy's official Python and Django teaching partner, and through his work with Techpoint Foundation for Youth to build the largest network of Coder Dojos.
Calvin's approach to teaching makes learning how to code relatable to his students. From having his students think about how they would verbally instruct a computer how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, to introducing them to fellow developers, Calvin fosters an encouraging, enthusiastic environment for his students that allows them to thrive.
The Mira Awards, presented by TechPoint, recognize the best tech in Indiana each year. This year marks the Mira Awards' 17th year, and continues to celebrate the impressive tech opportunities Indiana has to offer with eight new categories this year. Calvin's next steps include an interview with the judging panel, a "Meet the Nominees" event, and the awards gala on Saturday, April 23.
Join us in congratulating Calvin for his nomination!
While this is Calvin's first nomination, Six Feet Up was nominated for the IT Services Excellence & Innovation Award in 2013. More information on our previous nomination can be found here.
