Super-Charge Python Async Abilities in 42 Lines of Code with IndyPy

September 16, 2021

The September 2021 edition of IndyPy — Indiana's largest Python meetup founded in 2007 by Six Feet Up CTO and Amazon Web Services (AWS) Community Hero, Calvin Hendryx-Parker — featured an engaging presentation on "Practical Python Async in 42 Lines of Code."

During the presentation, Calvin shared how to take a synchronous Python program and super-charge it with async functionality. Specifically, in this example, Calvin wanted to create a list of conference speakers and their Twitter handles. He used BeautifulSoup to scrape multiple web pages and create a list of conference speaker Twitter handles in just 2.8 seconds!

While scraping Twitter handles was Calvin’s goal, this code can be applied to various use cases. Read our live Twitter thread, and check out Calvin’s GitHub for the slides.
