Hand eczema is a form of dermatitis that affects only a person's hands. Chronic hand eczema can severly impact a person's ability to perform simple tasks. The "Take Back Your Hands" website was commissioned by Basilea Pharmaceutica Ltd., a Swiss pharmaceutical company listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange (SIX:BSLN), in order to educate the public about hand eczema.
Based on the Open Source Content Management System Plone, the site features multiple slideshow implementations, content-managed facts and questions, an interactive quiz, and multi-language support. The four different slideshows that appear on the site each feature a specific layout and can be easily updated by the site administrator. Slideshows that contain navigation elements automatically update when a new slide is added.
On the homepage, various questions appear at the bottom of the page. Each of these questions is content-managed and redirects the user to an internal page that contains an answer to the question. Similarly, Hand Eczema Facts appear in the upper right hand corner of each page. Each fact is content-managed and changes depending on which page the user lands on.
The centerpiece of the site is the interactive quiz. Built in jQuery, the quiz walks the user through assessing the severity and type of eczema they have and provides them with instant tips and responses based on the answers selected. The quiz also outputs a detailed report of how the user answered and offers the option to print a PDF copy to take to a doctor.
Basilea plans to translate this original site into several other languages. With that in mind, multi-lingual support was added using LinguaPlone for all content, including custom content types.
The site was designed by Cement Bond and developed by Six Feet Up, under Abstract Edge's leadership.
