Challenge

Winton Woods City Schools were in the process of upgrading their services and switching their focus to a more culturally-diverse education when they asked Six Feet Up to help revamp their website design and implement a Content Management System. The Schools were looking for a new professional look and feel as well as an easy way to manage content online so that staff members and teachers could easily post information onto the site.

Implementation Details

The new site features a brand new design in line with the classy, collegial look that the School District is striving to establish. Various key courses and programs will be portrayed in a rotating banner image on the home page. Visitors can also keep up-to-date with the District news and events right off of the home page as the information is automatically syndicated from subpages. Powered by the open source content management system Plone, the new site features sub-sites for the schools and departments. Each school manages its own calendar of events and recent news items, and all are automatically syndicated to two main navigation sections. Visitors can look at events using a 3-month, monthly, weekly or daily view of the calendar. Management of the web content is delegated to teachers who have access to editing tools inside their own schools. A multi-tier approval process is also in place that allows local webmasters to review teachers' content, and district webmasters to review content submitted outside the school sections. Last but not least, the site's new Staff Directory page provides parents and visitors with a quick access to teachers and staff members contact information across the whole district thanks to real-time content syndication from an Active Directory server.
